Early Life
On July 26, 1974, Negreanu was born in the city of Toronto, in the province of Ontario. When Daniel was a teenager, he taught himself how to play poker, which led to the development of his passion for gambling. He spent a lot of time in pool halls, which is where he picked up hustling, card playing, and sports betting. Negreanu left high school when he was just a few credits away from graduating in order to play poker on a full-time basis. He began competing against grownups in charity casinos and other types of gambling establishments. Negreanu won a bracelet at the World Series of Poker when he was just 21 years old, and he kept that record for the next six years.
Daniel continued to compete in poker tournaments both online and in the real world, gaining a reputation as one of the top players in both settings. A second World Series of Poker bracelet and a reward of $169,100 were awarded to him for his victory in 2004. In 2004, Negreanu was victorious in two World Poker Tour events, one of which was the $10,000 Borgata Poker Open, which resulted in winnings of $1,009,100, and the other of which was the $15,000 Five Diamond World Poker Classic, which resulted in winnings of $1,795,218.
