On April 25, 1962, Adam Silver was born in Rye, New York, a suburb of New York City. He started his educational journey at Rye High School, from which he graduated in 1980, and moved on to Duke University, where he earned a degree in political science. He served as a legislative aide for Representative Les AuCoin of California for a year after graduating from college in 1984. After that, he went to law school and earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago in 1988. Following graduation from law school, Silver clerked for U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood in the Southern District of New York. He subsequently became an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore.
